Sunday Nov 13, 2:00pm-3:30pm: (online) Shadow Box Crafting Workshop with Nicky Martinez
A meditative craft filled Dia de los Muertos journey.
An online shadowbox-making workshop done in the comfort of your home. Bring pictures of past loved ones, pets, or celebrities you admired when they were alive and make a shadowbox to commemorate them for your next Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda, year-long alter, or just a nice memento for your home. Nicky Martinez will educate you on the indigenous practices of Dia de los Muertos, how has colonization changed it, and how it has stayed alive today. They will also walk through the process of making anything into a shadowbox, whether you already have one made of wood or making one from cardboard/ paper, or turning a vase into a non-traditional shadowbox art piece. Come with your own supplies and be open to learning and creating together.
Recomended Supplies list:
Pictures of past loved ones,
trinkets (flowers, shells, beads, glitter, sticks, anything for decorating)
Glue (krazy glue preferably)
Scissors
Paper
Pen/markers
Shadowbox (can be an old mason jar, old vase, shoebox, any cardboard box, or bring paper to learn how to make an origami box)
